Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the results of the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar reflect the anger of the people towards the BJP.
In a tweet, Mr Gandhi said,’Congratulations to the winners of the bypolls . It is clear from the results that people are extremely angry towards the BJP.. It is also clear that the people will vote for the non BJP candidates who have the highest chances of winning in the election.’
On the Congress candidates being relegated to a poor third, the Congress president said, ‘ The Congress is ready for ‘Navnirman’ (restructuring) in Uttar Pradesh. But it will not be an overnight process.’
In a huge blow to the ruling BJP, the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday took winning leads in both the Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur which were vacated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya.
With the Bahujan Samaj Party backing its bitter rival Samajwadi Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be heading for a shock defeat in both the constituencies..
In the Bihar bypolls, the results for which were announced on Wednesday, RJD won the Jehanabad seat while BJP was able to hold on to the Bhabua assembly seat.
In the Araria Lok Sabha constituency, the RJD won the election.
