All arrangements are in place for by-elections in two Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh and one Lok Sabha seat of Bihar on Sunday. The campaigning for by-elections in Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and Araria Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar concluded last evening.
In Bihar, bye polls will also be held for Jehanabad and Bhabhua Assembly seats on Sunday.
Voting will begin from 7 am and conclude at 5 pm. The Election Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-elections in all the polling stations.
Security forces and poll personnel have reached at polling stations to ensure free and fair polling. The counting of votes will take place on Wednesday.
In Uttar Pradesh, a total of 22 candidates including BJP, SP and Congress nominees are in contest from Phulpur in Allahabad district and 10 candidates from Gorakhpur seat.
Both the bye polls have been necessitated following resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur seat and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya from Phulpur Lok Sabha seats after their elections to State Legislative Council.
In Bihar, for the bypoll in Araria Lok Sabha seat, which was necessitated following the death of Mohd Taslimuddin of the RJD, seven candidates are in the fray.
The Bhabua assembly seat was vacated after the death of the BJP’s Anand Bhushan Pandey.
The bypoll in Jehanabad assembly seat was necessitated following the death of RJD MLA Mundrika Singh Yadav.
