Sri Lankan government has decided to release remaining 20 Indian fishermen in their custody for charges of poaching into Sri Lankan waters. A spokesman in fisheries department said the order for release has been issued and the fishermen are likely to be repatriated next week after completing formalities.
Sri Lankan government had released 109 out of 129 fishermen earlier this month and they were repatriated last week.
The government has been releasing fishermen on humanitarian grounds from time to time but fishing boats are retained. More than 170 boats are in Sri Lankan custody.
