Famous Urdu poet and Mushaira conductor Anwar Jalalpuri passed away here Tuesday following brain hemorrhage. He 71. A pall of gloom descended in literary circle as the news of his death spread.
Apart from his poetry Anwar was famous for his ‘Nizamat’ ( conducting proceedings of Mushaira ) which is always appealing to the people who love & admired him. He conducted hundreds of Mushaira across the world.
The poet had also won laurels for translation over 700 shlokas of the Bhagwad Gita from Sanskrit to Urdu, with an aim to promote communal harmony.
Anwar Jalalpuri is born in the town Jalalpur ( district Ambedkar Nagar ) which is very famous for the Urdu poets. He achieved many milestones in establishing himself as the true genius of 3 different languages. He was professor of English by profession but poet by heart !

Some of his important literary works include “Rahrau se Rahnuma Tak”, translations of Gitanjali and Bhagwat Gita in Urdu. He also wrote dialogues for TV serial “Akbar the Great”.
He had established a junior high school named after legendary poet Mirza Ghalib in Jalalpur in 1969.
Roshnai ke safeer, Khare paniyo ka silsila, Khushbu ki rishtedari, Jaagti ankhein are his collection of Urdu – Hindi poetry. He is also credited with four books on ‘Natiya Shairi’. ‘Apni dharti apne log’ is compilation of his work on prose. He is a regular contributor in many newspapers & magazines.
Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy, Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy, Meer Academy, Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Bazm-e Urdu Adab, etc honoured him with many awards and recognitions. He was member of Uttar Pradesh Haj Committee, Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy, Urdu – Arabic – Persian University Committee, etc. He was also Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Board.
