In an attempt to take the sting out of BJP’s victory in the recently-held civic elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party on Tuesday said that the BJP won only in those constituencies where electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used.
Addressing a press conference here, party’s national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav said the BJP’s showing in municipal corporations and nagar panchayat elections was dismal.
The BJP, which had won 43 per cent votes in the Assembly elections, slipped to less than 30 per cent in the civic polls, he said.
Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Aggarwal, he said, as before there were complaints about the erratic functioning of the EVMs.
Several dummy candidates were put up and in EVM those votes got transferred to independent candidates.
