Separatist leader Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested today while chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was put under house arrest since late Friday night.
There was also no relief for chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani who remained under house arrest for the past several months.
The action comes in the wake of killing of a Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TeM) militant Mugees Ahmad Mir in a shootout with police in Zakura area of Srinagar last evening.
A spokesman for the JKLF said team of security forces arrested Malik from his Maisuma residence near here this morning. He said Malik was later shifted to central jail, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, restrictions have been imposed in the territorial jurisdiction of Parimpora and seven other police stations of Srinagar to prevent protests against the killing of Mir.
