The North East Monsoon is intensifying in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Heavy to rather heavy rain is being witnessed in several parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Nagapattinam districts since early this morning.
The Meteorology Department in Chennai has predicted heavy to rather heavy rain in most of the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and at isolated places in interior districts for the next two days. Its Director Mr Balachandran told reporters in Chennai today, the upper air circulation off the coast of Srilanka persists in the same area since yesterday, leading to the rainfall.
In the geographical areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Kerala, North East Monsoon commenced by the 27th of this month.
Initially the monsoon activity was confined to some sporadic places only. However, the weather officials said, rain has spread over to almost the whole region since this morning.
