8 from JK crack UPSC Civil Service examEight candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have qualified the prestigious UPSC Civil Service examination.

The candidates include Baseer-ul-Haq, Afaq Ahmad Giri, Chowdary Muhammad Yasin, Pryati Sharma, DeebaFarhat, Athar Amir-ul-Shafi Khan, Irfan Hafiz and Ruveda Salam. The results of which were declared Saturday.

AtharAamir-ul-Shafi Khan, a resident of Anantnag district is the youngest among those who made it to the civil services at the age of 22. He has secured 560th rank.

“It was my first attempt. I completed my Engineering from IIT Mandi in Himachal Pradesh in July last year,” Khan said.
DeebaFarhat, a 26 year old Engineering graduate, had qualified Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) in 2011 but did not stop there.

She is presently working as Accounts Officer in District Rural Development Agency, Anantnag.

“We have been living with our grandparents since then,” Deeba says adding had it not been so she would have done better.

Deeba had opted for Urdu in the civil services for she is passionate about Urdu literature and poetry despite being a science graduate.

“I have only studied Urdu till Secondary level only but I always loved reading Urdu literature and poetry,” said Deeba.

She said that she is particularly fond of reading Alama Iqbal and MirzaGhalib.

Deeba lost her father, Nazir Ahmad Vaid, a Junior Engineering in Public Works Department (PWD) at a very early age after which her mother, Nigeena Akhtar has been supporting the family.

“My mother always wanted to see me on top and I dedicate this success to her,” said Deeba. “I also dedicate my success to my late father.”

She attributed her success to his commitment to self study.

Baseer-ul-Haq, 33, son of MunirHussain -a non-gazetted employee in PHE department, has qualified the exam with a commendable rank of 46.

“Baseer has been brilliant at studies from the very beginning when he was student of a small private school in Rajouri. After schooling he did engineering in computer science from Government Engineering College Jammu,” said Anees Ahmed, uncle of Basser.

Young Bishnah girl, Pryati Sharma, 24, daughter of Jagdish Sharma, Deputy Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department, and NeelamKhajuria, government teacher, has given her family reasons to feel proud. She qualified the exam in her maiden attempt by attaining 136rd rank.

“I am really very happy to know the results. I can’t believe that I finally cracked the examination, I have been preparing for the exam for last one year,” Pryati told to Greater Kashmir.

Pryati said, “I have worked hard to achieve this. Soon after completing my Post Graduation, I started the preparation and also took coaching at Delhi for mains exam,” she said, adding, “I just prepared for it with dedication and full focus. However I didn’t know that I could crack it in first attempt.”

“My family always acted as great motivational force for me to achieve this success. They always stood behind me, encouraged me and provided the best facilities so that I can peruse my dream”, she said.

On future, she said, “As of now I don’t plan anything, but to serve the nation with dedication is only goal in my life.”

Since the declaration of results, Pryati house has been abuzz with relatives and media persons. Her family members are upbeat.

“We are happy that our daughter has successfully cleared one of the most difficult exams of the country. The whole town is proud of her. I cannot express my feelings in words,” a proud mother, NeelamKhajuria, told Greater Kashmir.

Her father, Jagdish Sharma, said that since her childhood Pryati was a brilliant student.

Pryati did her schooling from Presentation Convent School Gandhi Nagar Jammu. She studied Medical Science at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.

In 2011, Pryati attained third position in Science Stream of degree level examination. She is also University Gold medalist in Zoology, session 2011-2013.

Irfan Hafiz son of Hafiz-ur-Rehman of KalaiPoonch has also appeared in the coveted list of civil service selectees and has attained 1183 rank at all-India level.

The UPSC on Saturday announced its civil services exam results with the top four ranks being secured by women.

A total number of 1,236 candidates including 590 in General category, 354 belonging to Other Backward Class, 194 from Scheduled Caste and 98 from Scheduled Tribe, have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’, the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) said.
