At least four Maoists were killed in a fresh encounter in Gadchiroli district last evening. This encounter took place a day after what Maharashtra Police described the Sunday’s encounter as the biggest-ever success in its anti-Maoist operations.

Our correspondents report that the elite C-60 commandos of district police were involved in the operation.

Inspector General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sharad Shelar informed that the gun-battle that killed four Naxals took place in Rajaram Khandla jungle in Jimalgatta area of the district.

He said that the exact number of slain Naxals was yet to be confirmed, but at least four rebels have been eliminated. The police are expected to retrieve bodies of many more Naxals from the site of Sunday’s encounter, as heavy rains made the combing operation difficult in the area.
