three Army personnel and a militant were killed when militants attacked a patrol party in the frontier district of Kupwara today. official sources said that an Army patrol party was attacked by militants in the interior forest area of Tangdhar sector in Kupwara.

Troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter, three Army personnel were killed and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured. A militant was also killed in the encounter as search operation was going in the forest, where more reinforcements were being rushed from nearby camps.

In another incident in Kashmir valley, one soldier and a militant were killed today in the district of Kulgam. A soldier was injured when militants fired on an army petrol at village Kulyariputa. Security forces cordoned the area during which a brief encounter took place, resulting in killing of a militant. The injured army jawan also succumbed to injuries later in a hospital. Earlier, in the day militants had opened firing at a market in Sopore town in North Kashmir killing a BSNL franchise and injuring two others.
