Says Welfare of coastal communities, strengthening coastal infrastructure are priorities of Government

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the double-engine government focused on the holistic development of Gujarat’s coastline which was looked upon as a burden in history.
Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for various development projects worth around 3 thousand 580 crore rupees in Junagadh the PM Modi said the government is focusing on the security and welfare of fishermen as well as strengthening coastal infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said the Sagarkhedu scheme of the government which addresses special problems to improve the quality of life in coastal areas, especially fisherman population, resulted in increasing the fishing export by seven times during the last eight years.
PM said the drone technology would also be proved beneficial for the fishermen in the coming times. PM said the government is stressing upon Port led development, which will bring economic benefits to the people in the years to come. He said the coastal highway will boost tourism activities along with generating employment opportunities in the Saurashtra region
PM talked about a series of initiatives his government has taken for the welfare of fishermen, farmers, women, and youths during the last 20 years. He also lauded the farmers practicing natural farming.
On the occasion, PM laid the foundation stone for the improvement of coastal highways along with the construction of missing links. In the first phase of this project, a total highway length of over 270 Km will be covered across 13 districts.
He also laid the foundation stone for two water supply projects and for the construction of a godown complex for the storage of Agri products at Junagadh.
At Porbandar, PM laid the foundation stone for the holistic development of Shri Krishan Rukshamani Mandir, Madhavpur. At Gir Somnath, he laid the foundation stone for a fishing port at Madhwad.
