Delhi records warmest DAY in February in 10 years

Avalanche warning issued in some parts of J&K and HP

heatwaveThe temperature suddenly gone up the northern Indian plains yesterday, with Delhi recording the warmest February day in a decade and the maximum temperature in the national capital rose to 32.4 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest February day in last 10 years. The minimum temperature was pegged at 16.4 degrees Celsius, five notches above the normal.

For Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, a 24-hour medium to high danger avalanche warning was issued for some parts last evening. Chandigarh-based Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment said, high danger avalanche warning exists for avalanche-prone slopes of Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir, with medium danger warning for Kupwara and Bandipora districts.

In Himachal Pradesh, the higher reaches in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba Kangra and Kullu district have experienced light to moderate snowfall. MeT department has predicted more rain and snowfall in several parts during the next 24 hours.The continuous snowfall on higher reaches has affected the normal life especially in Lahaul-Spiti district and Pangi valley of Chamba district.

The authorities in Pangi have advised people not to venture in open after the fresh spell of snowfall. The power supply has been disrupted in the valley after more than 60 cm of snowfall. In this severe cold wave conditions without power people are facing lot of difficulties in the area.
