Days after being elected to the state legislative council, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya today resigned from the Lok Sabha.

The two BJP MPs submitted their resignations to the Lok Sabha secretariat.

They also talked to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who is in Indore, over phone.

Official sources said, Ms. Mahajan wished them success and expressed hope that they will fulfill their responsibility in new roles.

Yogi Adityanath represented the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat, while Mr. Maurya, Phulpur constituency.

Last week, the two leaders were elected unopposed to the UP legislative council.
