In a significant step to ensure peaceful and transparent elections, Lok Bhavan in West Bengal has established a dedicated 24×7 citizen helpline ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. The initiative aims to address public concerns and prevent any incidents of pre- or post-election violence in the state.
The move comes in response to growing apprehensions among citizens, with several public delegations recently meeting the Governor to express fears over potential violence. Many individuals reportedly shared past experiences of intimidation, physical assault, and even loss of family members during previous elections. Concerns were also raised about voters being forcibly prevented from exercising their democratic rights.
Taking note of the state’s history of election-related unrest, the Election Commission of India has already put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure a free and fair electoral process. Complementing these efforts, Lok Bhavan’s helpline is designed to provide immediate support and assistance to citizens.
Officials said the helpline will function as a responsive mechanism to receive complaints, facilitate prompt redressal, and guide citizens toward appropriate institutional support. Authorities have assured that all grievances will be handled with sensitivity and strict confidentiality.
The initiative is also intended to encourage voter participation by creating a safe and fear-free environment. Citizens have been urged to actively take part in the democratic process and cast their votes without hesitation.
The government emphasized that every vote is valuable and that ensuring voter confidence remains a top priority. The helpline is expected to play a crucial role in bridging communication between citizens and authorities during the election period.
