The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a plea seeking removal of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav due to his alleged involvement in the Vyapam scam. A bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices Arun Kumar Mishra and Amitava Roy said that it will hear the petition about the scam along with other pleas on the issue on 9th of this month. The petition, filed by a group of lawyers, sought removal of Yadav and recording of his statement in the case.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scam has already filed an FIR against Yadav and his son over the scam. The head of the SIT has said action will be taken against the Governor after he retires. The SIT Chief said that they have proof against Ram Naresh Yadav but he enjoys immunity till he holds the Governor’s post.

The Congress has accused persons at the highest levels of Madhya Pradesh government of being involved in the scam, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his wife Sadhna Singh and Governor Ram Naresh Yadav. Over forty people linked to the scam have died including 24 accused under mysterious circumstances. The most high profile death was of the Governor’s son Shailesh.
