The Editors Guild of India has demanded a CBI probe into the death of TV journalist Akshay Singh, who died under mysterious circumstances while covering the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. In a statement, President of Editors Guild of India has expressed shock over the mysterious death of Mr Singh.
He said, the death of TV journalist has come as a chilling reminder of the dangers faced by journalists investigating high-profile scams. It said, the state police has so far proved unequal to the task of either investigating the scam or safeguarding critical witnesses and others connected with it.
3-member panel to examine journalist’s viscera at AIIMS
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has constituted a three-member board to examine the viscera samples of TV journalist Akshay Singh who died under mysterious circumstances while covering Vyapam scam. According to AIIMS sources, the viscera samples are likely to be sent to CFSL Delhi while pathological examination of tissues will be conducted at AIIMS itself. The viscera samples were handed over to the Head of the Department of AIIMS, by a police team from Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh yesterday.
As per post-mortem done by Dahod General Hospital in Gujarat, no internal or external injuries were found on TV journalist Akshay Singh body. The report stated that he had an enlarged heart and weight of the heart was more than normal and lungs were congested. However, doctors who conducted the autopsy had reserved their opinion on the cause of death, following which the samples were brought to Delhi. Mr Singh, a TV journalist suddenly took ill and died last Saturday after having interviewed parents of a girl Namrata Damor, who had been found dead near railway tracks after her name figured in the Vyapam scam.
