The Torkham is the place where deadly clashes have killed a Pakistani major and two Afghan border guards and wounded 20 on both sides. Torkham, a usually busy crossing, has remained closed because of continuing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The State Department Spokesman, John Kirby said, the US wants Afghanistan and Pakistan to work through differences bilaterally.

Observing that the US does not want to see this kind of violence between the two sides, Kirby said there are plenty of shared threats and common challenges between the two countries and plenty of reasons for them to look for ways to work together.
