An All India Mushaira titled “Jashn-e-Hindustan” is scheduled to be held on June 20, 2026, at Aiwan e Ghalib, ITO, with financial support from the Delhi Urdu Academy. However, the event has sparked criticism after its official poster appeared entirely in English, without a single word written in Urdu script.

Critics have pointed to two major concerns. First, instead of organizing the event directly, the Delhi Urdu Academy has reportedly funded a programme being conducted by a private organization, raising questions about the Academy’s role in promoting the language.

Second, despite receiving support from an institution established for the promotion of Urdu, the event poster carries all information in English transliteration, including the title “Jashn-e-Hindustan.” While the Delhi Urdu Academy’s name and logo appear on the poster, Urdu script itself is completely absent.

Urdu activist Ejaz Ahmad Ejazi has questioned how a programme funded in the name of Urdu can overlook the language in its publicity material. He argued that such practices undermine the very objective of institutions created to preserve and promote Urdu.

More Urdu lovers have demanded that the Academy ensure that events supported by public funds prominently use Urdu script in posters, banners, and invitations, and have called for an inquiry into the approval of the current poster.
