The Uttar Pradesh unit of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress has called upon the state government and the Department of Unani Services to play a more active role in addressing key issues concerning the promotion and development of the Unani system of medicine in the state.
The appeal was made at an important meeting of the organisation held at the residence of Muhammad Khalid (Netaji) in Aishbagh, Lucknow, under the chairmanship of Dr Syed Ahmad Khan.
The meeting was attended by the organisation’s Chief Patron in Uttar Pradesh, Muhammad Khalid, National Secretary Dr Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub, Dr Muhammad Owais Hasan, Dr Ehtesham Ali, Dr Syed Zubair, state president Dr S M Ahsan Ejaz, vice-president Dr Shujauddin Ahmad, state general secretary Dr Akmal Alvi, National President of the organisation’s Youth Wing Dr Khubaib Ahmad, General Secretary Dr Ezaaz Ali Qadri, Muhammad Imran Kannauji and Hakeem Rashadul Islam, among others.
The participants unanimously appealed to members of the Unani fraternity to support Dr Mueed Ahmad, candidate from Zone 3, in the forthcoming election to the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbi Chikitsa Paddhati Board, Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Syed Ahmad Khan described Dr Mueed Ahmad as a dedicated advocate of the Unani system of medicine and a respected personality known for his integrity and commitment. He said supporting him was the moral responsibility of everyone associated with the Unani fraternity.
Dr Khan also expressed concern over the state of Unani medicine in Uttar Pradesh, pointing out several longstanding administrative and infrastructure-related issues that require urgent attention.
He said the Department of Unani Services, Uttar Pradesh, was yet to have its own Recruitment Rules (RR). He also highlighted that the Director of Unani (DO Unani) did not enjoy full administrative powers.
Another major concern raised at the meeting was the delay in starting academic sessions at the Government Unani Medical College in Bareilly, despite the completion of its construction.
Describing these as important issues affecting the growth of Unani medicine in the state, Dr Khan urged the concerned authorities to take concrete steps to resolve them and strengthen the system. Dr S M Ahsan Ejaz proposed the vote of thanks.
