The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to withdraw the case against Kalraj Mishra which was slapped upon him in Pilibhit for rioting, instigating communal passion and violation of poll conduct during 2009 Lok Sabha elections. DM Pilibhit confirmed that he has received such an instruction from the state government. He said that district public prosecutor has been asked to move the application before the court on next date of hearing which is May 21, 2015.
On March 28, 2009, a case was registered against Kalraj Mishra, now a Union Minister, as violence took place when BJP nominee from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, had surrendered in the court in connection with his alleged inflammatory speech on March 28, 2009. Mishra was present at that time in violation of the prohibitory orders. The police, after registering the case had charge sheeted Mishra holding him responsible for the crime. The CJM court of Pilibhit had issued non bailable warrants several times against Mishra who did not appear before the court.
