In Sudan, the United Nation’s top humanitarian official, Tom Fletcher, has pledged increased efforts to secure funding for Sudan’s 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan.

During a meeting with Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission head, Mona Nourel Daim, Mr. Fletcher emphasized the need for collaboration to address Sudan’s worsening humanitarian crisis.

On his first mission as the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Fletcher described his visit as an opportunity to assess the situation on the ground.

On the other hand, Nourel Daim highlighted the urgent funding shortfall, noting that only 1.5 billion dollars of the 2.7 billion dollars needed for 2024 has been secured.

According to recent UN and IOM data, Sudan has been devastated by conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, leading to over 27,120 deaths and displacing 14 million people.
