US President Donald Trump has expressed his commitment to peace in West Asia at a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

trump-winThe two leaders met in Bethlehem in the West Bank today. The US President is visiting the town on his first overseas tour since taking office. He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the day before.

Peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians collapsed three years ago.

During the meeting, Trump expressed optimism that his country can help the two sides forge peace, and bring new hope to the region. He said he firmly believes that a peace agreement will begin a process of peace all throughout the West Asia.

Trump also said Abbas assured him that he is ready to work toward that goal, and that Netanyahu promised the same. Trump added that he looks forward to working with these leaders toward a lasting peace.

In response, Abbas welcomed Trump’s visit, calling it historic. He said he will keep the door open to dialogue with Israel.
