Telangana Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka has proposed a strategic partnership between the state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Karnataka’s Hatti Gold Mines Company Limited (HGML) to boost domestic gold extraction. The directive was issued during Mr. Vikramarka’s official two-day tour of the Raichur district in Karnataka, where he inspected the operations at the Hatti and UTI gold mines.

Strategic Objectives of the Proposed Partnership

Leveraging Public Sector Expertise: The collaboration aims to merge Singareni’s extensive mining infrastructure and operational scale with Hatti Gold Mines’ specialized technical know-how in subterranean gold extraction.

Boosting Domestic Production: By pooling resources and technological capabilities, the venture seeks to scale up domestic bullion output, directly aligning with national efforts to reduce reliance on gold imports.

Inter-State Industrial Synergy: The initiative marks a rare cross-border public sector enterprise between neighboring southern states, optimizing regional mineral wealth and resource management.

Background on the Participating Entities

Singareni Collieries (SCCL): Predominantly a coal mining giant jointly owned by the Government of Telangana and the Government of India, Singareni possesses massive logistical, engineering, and workforce capabilities that can be diversified into precious metal mining.

Hatti Gold Mines (HGML): Operating out of Raichur, Karnataka, HGML is one of the very few primary gold producers in India, holding decades of specialized experience in underground gold reef mining and processing.

Following this exploratory visit, senior bureaucratic and technical teams from both Telangana and Karnataka are expected to draft a preliminary feasibility report evaluating mineral reserves, capital requirements, and regulatory frameworks required to operationalize the joint venture.
