Smooth And Peaceful Voting Across 39 Constituencies

The first and single phase of Lok Sabha election in the State of Tamilnadu was smooth and peaceful. The percentage of voting stands at 72.09 percent till 7 pm and it is likely to increase as the voters have been issued tokens. The bye poll of Vilavancode assembly constituency recorded 56.68 percent votes till now.  Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Madurai and Thanjavur recorded below 70 percent while the other 33 constituencies recorded above 70 percent of votes. Kallakurichi and Dharmapuri recorded more than 75 percent. Two senior citizens reportedly suffered heat stroke at Salem when they came to exercise their franchise. More from our Correspondent….

Akashwani correspondent reports thats the festival of democracy is drawing to a close in the State even as many are still waiting in queues to cast their votes. A total of 950 candidates are in the fray in 39 constituencies. Sealing of the ballot boxes has begun in the polling stations. A total of one lakh 58 thousand 568 ballot units and 86 thousand 858 VVPAT machines and 81 thousand 157 control units were set ready for the polling. Fifteen companies of Central Armed Police Force personnel will be in the first line of guarding the strong rooms where the EVMs will be kept. 8050 vulnerable polling booths and 181 critical booths were identified and security was tightened in those booths. Polling activity in Sixty five percent of booths were webcast. It is a three cornered contest in Tamilnadu. BJP is contesting in 23 seats, PMK in ten and smaller alliance partners in the rest of the constituencies. DMK is contesting in 22, Congress in 9, Left parties in two seats each, VCK in 2 and other seats went to MDMK, IUML and KDMK. AIADMK is contesting in 34 and its alliance partner DMDK led by Premalatha Vijaykant. It is to be noted that BJP had won four seats which is the maximum in Tamilnadu in the 2021 Assembly election when the party was in alliance with the DMK.This election will prove the growth of the BJP in the State.
