The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to launch a nationwide campaign against making Yoga and Surya Namaskar compulsory in schools.
Board member Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said that the board decided to constitute a committee, headed by Maulana Wali Rahmani for the purpose.
“The board’s view on ‘surya namaskar’ and ‘yoga’ would be put forth by the committee along with the explanation why they go against the beliefs of the Muslims, and why they should not be imposed on their children,” he said.
Another member Kamaal Farooqui said that it was against Islam to salute the sun.“Surya namaskar should not be made mandatory in govt schools,” because Muslims bowed only before ‘Allah.’ “Board has the option to move the court and to launch a movement against the proposal,”he said. The Hindu
The AIMPLB has called it an attempt to impose Hindu religious practices through the school curriculum. The board has called the Modi government’s policies illegal and against the Constitution.

“The committee will also find ways to make Muslim community aware of their constitutional rights. During the campaign, we will put forth our view on Surya Namaskar and Yoga and explain as to why it was against our religious beliefs and should not be forced on our children,” he said.
