Sri Lankan Navy apprehended four fishermen from Tamil Nadu when they were fishing near the international maritime boundary line early this morning. The Sri Lankan Navy also detained one fishing boat.
There is no respite for fishermen from Tamil Nadu as they ventured out into the sea after 45 day fishing ban. Sri Lankan Navy continues to confront them across the international maritime boundary line. The fishermen from Pudukottai Kottaipattinam had ventured out into the sea for fishing last Sunday midnight.
Four fishermen were apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy near Delfts island. The fishermen have been taken to Kankesanthurai by Sri Lankan Navy according to fishermen sources.
Earlier Sri Lankan Navy arrested seven fishermen from Rameswaram and detained their fishing boat on Monday night. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the immediate release of Tamil fishermen and 91 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
