Sri Lankan Government has decided for release of 113 Indian fishermen arrested in recent months on charges of fishing in its territorial waters. Three of the fishermen were released yesterday and repatriated back urgently due to death of a close relative. The rest of them are likely to be released from prison on Monday and will be repatriated back after couple of days.

There are a total of 140 fishermen presently in Sri Lankan custody. Earlier, Sri Lankan government had released 89 fishermen from in the last week of December.

Sri Lankan government releases Indian fishermen from time to time on humanitarian grounds but fishing boats are detained for a longer period.
