An Army jawan and a civilian were killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Khudwani area of Kulgam district today.
Officials said, two Army personnel and a CRPF jawan were also injured.
Two to three terrorists suspected to be Lashkar-e-Toiba cadres are believed to be trapped in a house where the encounter is still on.
The gunfight erupted last night after a cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces following inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Clashes between protesters and security forces have also been reported near the encounter site.
Protests have broken out near the gun battle site. A protester, identified as Sharjeel Sheikh, 28, who sustained a bullet injury, have succumbed at a hospital, the sources said.
Two-to-three LeT militants were still holed up inside a house.
Authorities have ordered closure of all schools and colleges in Kulgam and Internet services have been suspended.
