The Sensex today climbed 1.4 percent amid positive global cues. The Sensex regained the 60,000 mark while the Nifty reclaimed 17,900 level.
The BSE Sensex jumped 832 points, or 1.4 percent, to trade at 60,138. The NSE Nifty also surged 258 points, or 1.46 percent, to trade at 17,930.
In the broader market at BSE. The Mid-Cap index rose 1.75 percent and the Small-Cap index gained 1.11 percent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 26 companies gained while four logged losses. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer as it surged 7.8 percent followed by HCL which gained 3.9 percent. Bharti Airtel climbed 3.8 percent, Tata Steel surged 3.7 percent and Teck Mahindra rose three percent.
On the other side, Mahindra & Mahindar plunged 1.6 percent and Bajaj Finance declined one and half a percent.
In sectoral indices, all 19 sectors logged gains. Realty sector gained the most as it gained 3.6 percent followed by Telecom which rose 3.5 percent. Metal gained 3.3 percent, IT ended 2.4 percent up and Teck sector appreciated 2.2 percent.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was negative as shares of 2119 companies gained while 1193 fell. Shares of 189 companies remained unchanged.
