US Senate has confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee for U S Ambassador to the United Nations by a decisive margin. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley won strong support for the UN post despite her lack of foreign policy experience. Senators voted 96-4 on Haley’s nomination.
The Republican chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee has said Haley is a proven leader who will be a fierce advocate at the UN for American interests. The committee’s top Democrat, Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland, says he is encouraged by Haley’s commitment not to hastily cut back on the money the US contributes to the UN The United States pays 22 percent of the UN’s regular operating budget.
