cauvery_b_04-10-2012Security has been beefed up in Bengaluru and Cauvery basin regions of Mysuru and Mandya in Karnataka as Supreme Court takes up the Cauvery river water sharing dispute today.

The cities had witnessed arson and violence on the 5th of the this month when the apex court had directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Both states have decided to challenge the direction given by Cauvery Supervisory Committee yesterday that Karnataka has to release 3,000 cusecs of water till the 30th of this month to Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka is waiting with baited breath the outcome of Cauvery litigation in Supreme Court today. Security personnel are seen around the city with police patrol vehicles holding vigil. In sensitive areas flag march is organized. Situation is also monitored through CCTV cameras in Bengaluru which is also recording every movement on the streets. Police department has been tweeting since morning not to heed to rumours. Prohibitory orders are in place and ban on sale of liquor is imposed till tomorrow. In Mandya farmers held agitation today demanding release of Cauvery water from KRS dam to the irrigation canals.
