Scholars and Urdu lovers at a seminar on Urdu emphasised the need for promotion of the language in a true sense, saying mere lip service will not do much to the betterment of the language.
At a function on Urdu Day (November 9, the birth anniversary of great poet Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal ), they urged Urdu lovers to take action both at an individual and a collective level to promote the language which has become a victim of discrimination at its own land.
The seminar held at Ghalib Academy was jointly organized by the Urdu Development Organization and the United Muslim of India.
Great scholar, Prof. Abdul Haq said that it was not the time for mourning and grief, remove this feeling from your heart.
“This is the era of consumerism and in this period no business can ignore the millions of people who speak and read Urdu” he said adding that no government and political party can ignore such a large population. But it is important that we convey our feeling in a powerful and effective way.
He added that it has been proved that good moral qualities are also cultivated within the children who study Urdu. If you want to change the destiny of your family and change the destiny of your children.
Lal Bahadur Gowar of Allahabad, who has been active for years to give Urdu its legal and constitutional rights, complained that Urdu people themselves are turning away from Urdu.
“Instead of trying to get their constitutional rights, they are suffering from inferiority complex”, he said adding that all parents should give Urdu education to their children, but sadly more than 80% of parents don’t like their children study Urdu. On the other hand they complain of the government’s negligence.
Prof. Muhammad Idrees of Hakim Ajmal Khan Medical College, Khurshid Shafqat Azmi, Dr. Abdul Hai, editor of Urdu Dunia, Fazlullah Sharif, Prof Fazlullah Qadri, Mahnama Khairandish, Jalgaon editor Khalil Ansari and Shamshad Ahmed (Rajasthan) also spoke on the occasion.
The program was moderated by senior journalist Sohail Anjum. Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, the Convenor of the Urdu Urdu Day, thanked the participants.
On the occasion, several people were also honoured with awards in recognition of their outstanding service in promoting Urdu language and literature.

Literature, Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum (Allama Syed Salman Nadvi World Day for Urdu Translation Award), Farida Rahmatullah Khan (Noor Jahan Sarwat World Day Urdu Award for promotion literature), Andalib Akhtar (World Day Urdu Awards for Digital Media) , Dr. Yamin Ansari (Usman Farqalit World Day of Urdu Awards for Journalism), Farman Chaudhry (Alam) Urdu Urdu Award for Electronic Media), Dr Shamshad Ali (Dr Zakir Hussain World Day for Urdu Teaching and Teaching), Narendra Kumar (Fayad Ali Urdu Award for Photography), Jay Chand (Munshi Pram few World Day of Urdu Awards for Hindi Journalism), Manshorat Publishers and Distributors (Munshi Noel Kishore Day Urdu Award for Publishing).
Syed Farooq of Himalya Drugs, former Member of Parliament Chaudhry Matin Ahmed, KL Narang Sakhi, Matin Amrohavi, Arif Iqbal, Javed Akhtar journalist, Attaur Rehman Ajmali, Rizwan Ahmad Qasimi, Advisor to the Unani medicine Government of India Dr Mohammad Tahir were among those who were present on the occasion.
