Supreme Court today referred to a Constitution bench a batch of petitions arising out of Guwahati High Court orders passed in connection with recent political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh.
Previously, the Supreme Court on 7th of this month, asked Nabam Rebia, allegedly removed by 14 rebel Congress and BJP MLAs from the post of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker to establish the maintainability of his petition challenging dismissal of one of his pleas by the Guwahati High Court. Rebia challenged in Guwahati High Court various decisions of the Governor and Deputy Speaker including his removal from the Speaker’s post.
Rebia was removed from the post of the Speaker by 14 rebel Congress MLAs disqualified by him and BJP MLAs on December 16.
The case is in the Supreme Court now. The apex court had deferred the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly session till January 18, which was supposed to starts from today.
