Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that the Centre has earmarked Rs 4,000 crore for resolution of the man-animal conflict in Assam. Speaking at a function at Rain Forest Research Institute (RRFI) near Jorhat, Mr Javadekar said, he has asked for a detailed report on the marauding jumbos that have been creating havoc in Jorhat, Sivasagar and Lakhimpur districts.

Mr Javadekar said, as soon as the report from Assam Government reaches the Forest Ministry at the Centre, his ministry will release Rs 4,000 crore. He also urged the local MPs to submit a detailed report on the situation by next week. Three persons were killed and over 15 injured by elephants in Jorhat district alone in the past three days. Mr Javadekar took part in a plantation ceremony in Jorhat and inaugurated exhibition stalls of RFRI.
