Congress Party in Uttar Pradesh has termed quitting of former state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and her joining the BJP as an act of betrayal with the secular principles of the Congress Party.
State CLP leader Pradeep Mathur said that BJP will repent taking Rita Joshi in, who ditched even the Congress, the Party which gave so much to Rita Joshi and her family.
Ramkrishna Dwivedi, chairman of disciplinary committee of the Party said that in fact this was a part of a larger conspiracy under which she along with her brother Vijay Bahuguna were in constant touch with leaders of other political parties.
A Congress party release issued on Thursday said that Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s leaving the Congress and joining BJP would have no impact on the party and the party candidate from the Lucknow Cantonment would retain the assembly seat in coming Assembly elections.
It also said that for months, Rita Joshi was covertly passing on party’s confidential information to the BJP and its leaders. By this act, she has proved that she is a selfish and ambitious lady, the release alleged.
The state Congress leaders also dismissed her allegations that she was sidelined within the party. Satya Deo Tripathi, head of communication wing of state Congress said that after she left Samajwadi Party and joined the Congress, she was twice made UPCC chief and also contested parliamentary elections on Congress ticket from Lucknow in 2009 & 2014. UPCC leader Vikas Srivastava told media that despite being made the chairperson of the national women’s wing of the party, she ditched the party.
