Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik this evening, in the aftermath of SUM Hospital fire tragedy leaving 25 patients dead.
Nayak’s resignation came a day after he admitted to lapses in fire safety measures at the hospital.
Informing media Naveen Patnaik said the Health minister resigned on moral grounds. After accepting the resignation, the same is being sent to for approval of Governor Dr. S C Jamir.
Earlier today, four more patients receiving treatment at different hospitals succumbed to injuries.On Monday, 21 patients died of asphyxiation and over a hundred were injured as the fire swept through the hospital corridors and its dialysis ward.
