Geoffrey Hinton, a scientist among the founders of artificial intelligence technologies, has warned against the rapid introduction of Artificial technology can prove to be ‘very dangerous’ for humanity.

According to the New York Times, Hinton left Google to raise awareness about the dangers of the technology.

The scientist, who founded the Foundation for Artificial Technology and is considered a godfather in the field, told The Times that advances in artificial intelligence would pose “profound threats to society and humanity.”

“It’s scary,” he said, referring to the rapid growth in synthetic technology over the past five years.

Hinton said competition among the world’s biggest technology companies has driven them to release new technologies at an alarming rate.

The trend, he says, is “putting jobs at risk and spreading misinformation.”

“It’s hard to see how you can prevent bad characters from being used for bad things,”

Jobs may be at risk

In the year 2022, Google and the startup company “OpenAI” behind the popular chatbot “ChatGPT” started building a system using more data than ever before.

Hinton said he believed these systems were eclipsing human intelligence in some ways because they were analyzing large amounts of data.

Artificial intelligence has been used to help human workers, but the rapid expansion of chatbots like ChatGPT could put jobs at risk.

He said that artificial intelligence can perform difficult tasks for humans, but it can also take away the ability to do more than this ability.

Concerns about misinformation

Warning about the possible spread of misinformation created by artificial intelligence, the scientist said that the common man will no longer know what is true.

Hinton tendered his resignation to Google last month. Jeff Dean, one of the company’s lead scientists, thanked Hinton in a statement to US media.
