Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today declared elected unopposed to the post of the party president, making a generational change within the party.
Rahul will replace his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who held the party reins for a record 19 years.
Mr Gandhi was declared elected to the post by Chairman of the Central election authority Mullapally Ramachandran after he was the only candidate to file nomination for the post after the end of the deadline for withdrawal of nominations.
”Eighty nine nomination papers proposing the name of Mr Rahul Gandhi for Congress president have been recceived.
All the nomination papers have been found valid.
