Allegations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar ‘baseless’: Election Commission

Staff Reporter / New Delhi

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of obstructing an investigation into large-scale voter data manipulation in Karnataka.

Talking about the Aland constituency in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi alleged that around 6 thousand votes were deleted fraudulently by unknown people who used software and impersonated real voters.

“We don’t know the total number of votes that were deleted in Aland in the 2023 election. They’re likely much higher than 6,018,” he said.

Gandhi said the Karnataka CID has sent 18 letters over 18 months to the Election Commission, seeking technical details such as IP addresses, device ports, and OTP trails linked to suspicious voter registrations—but received no response.

“They are not providing the data because it would expose where the operation is being run from. We’re convinced we know where this leads,” Gandhi claimed.

He said this refusal to cooperate raises serious questions about the Election Commission’s neutrality.

Mr. Gandhi claimed that 6018 votes were sought to be deleted in the Aland constituency of Karnataka, using centralised software and phones outside of Karnataka. He also claimed Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities are systematically targeted and are being disenfranchised.

Information is coming from inside the Election Commission: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claims that, ”I want to make it clear that information is coming from inside the Election Commission of India and it won’t stop.”

He says, “Democracy can be saved only by the people of India. Only Rahul Gandhi cannot save it.”

In a post on X, he said the Karnataka CID is probing the voter deletion case in Aland constituency and asked if the country can afford a democracy where the electoral system is being dismantled by the “vote chori machinery”.
