After an order of probe into the cause of fire that broke out at the cultural event as part of the Make in India week in Mumbai last night, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ajoy Mehta visited the fire accident site today.
A senior Fire Brigade official informed that the fire that erupted when the cultural programme was still in progress, was brought under control within 45 minutes due to a pre-approved disaster management plan. The event management group too has clarified that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were followed. Yesterday the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too had said that SOPs were followed.
Praising the rescue operation later, Chief Minister said they had conducted a fire safety audit at the venue four days ago and a comprehensive disaster management plan was designed for the evening. A debriefing session was also held before the event. All dignitaries and performers were aware of the various emergency exits. This led to swift evacuation. There was no traffic trouble too.
Sound of explosion was also heard at the venue as gas cynlinders were present there. And high speed winds added to the fire as the event was being held at sea front. However, nearly 7,000 people, including large number of delegates, investors, politicians and Bollywood stars, were evacuated within the first 10 minutes. People were evacuated through various exits and therefore panic or a stampede-like situation was avoided.
Chief Minister Fadanvis further said, all the Programmes of Make in India will be conducted as per schedule.
Six sectoral seminars will be held today under ongoing Make in India week in Mumbai. Topics like opportunities in Electronics, Information Technology, Capital Goods and Engineering will be discussed in them. Union ministers will lead the discussions in most of the sectoral seminars. These seminars will showcase India’s strength in different fields.
