President Pranab Mukherjee has said that the Bangla literature has contributed in improving every sphere of our life. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 88th Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan in Ranchi today, the President outlined the glorious history of Bangla literature which has inspired people beginning from it’s initial creations- like ‘Dharma Mangal’, ‘Mansa Mangal’ and ‘Vaishnav poetry’ untill it’s modern days manifestations in the writings of the stalwarts such as Sharad Chandra, Bankim Chandra and Rabindra Nath Tagore.

The three- day annual literary convention has attracted over 50 delegations of writers and people from cultural field across the country stretching as far from Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala. The convention will also see various interactive sessions and discussions on impact of Bangla theater, cinema and television on society and role of music in Bangla literature. Variety packed cultural programme would be showcased daily in the evening.

The President said that he himself has been very closely associated with the Nikhi Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan for more than three decades. He pointed out that Rabindra Nath Tagore also attended the convention at Banaras in 1923.

Governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu, Chief Minister Raghuwar Das, State Minister Saryu Rai and Sammelan President and MP Pradeep Bhattacharya also addressed the opening session.
