Poonam MahajanPoonam Mahajan, MP and daughter of former BJP leader Pramod Mahajn replaced Anurag Thakur as the chief of party’s Yuva Morcha.

Poonam contested the general election from Mumbai North Central and defeated two-time MP Priya Dutt of the Congress by a margin of 1.86 lakh votes in 2014.

BJP chief Amit Shah on Thursday appointed Poonam Mahajan the head of party’s youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Shah also appointed heads of the party’s SC, ST, Kisaan Morcha and OBC wing.

Poonam Mahajan, daughter of former BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, replaced Anurag Thakur as the chief of party’s Yuva Morcha, who had the position for six years.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court on Thursday came down hard on Anurag Thakur and said the BCCI chief “appears to have prima facie committed perjury”. It further noted that Thakur might land in jail if perjury is proved.

After her father’s murder in 2006, Poonam Mahajan joined the BJP, with the encouragement of her uncle late Gopinath Munde. She is currently the national secretary of the BJP.

Vinod Sonkar, a Lok Sabha member from Kaushambi, Ramvichar Netam, a Rajya Sabha member from Chattisgarh, Virendra Singh ‘Mast’ and former MP Dara Singh Chauhan were named as new presidents of party’s SC, ST, Kisan and OBC wings respectively.
