EDIn an apparent reference to Pakistan, India has said, arguments of political convenience to provide an alibi for terrorist organisations are no longer tolerable.

Speaking at the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) Council of Defence Ministers’ meeting in Beijing yesterday, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised the issues of cross-border terrorism, extremism, cyber security and narcotics trafficking.

“Arguments of political convenience to provide an alibi for terrorist organisations that support terrorism through material support or otherwise are no longer tolerable. Indeed, as the world has now realized, there are no good terrorists.”Sitharaman said

She said, these issues require solutions based on co-operative frameworks that involve all countries and stakeholders.

Mrs Sitharaman also asserted that there is a need to adopt an uncompromising approach towards the persisting threat of terrorism in Afghanistan.

She added that India is committed to assisting Afghanistan in regaining stability, including co-operation in building capabilities of the Afghan security forces.

The Defence Minister urged the SCO member states to work towards greater co-ordination and move towards peace and stability.
