modiPrime Minister Narendra Modi today urged China to make a fair and objective assessment of India’s bid to join the prestigious Nuclear Suppliers Group, NSG.

He said, India’s application of joining the group should be judged on its own merit. Joint Secretary, MEA Vikas Swarup told media that Prime Minister Modi asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to contribute to the emerging consensus in Seoul for India’s inclusion in NSG.

Earlier, Chinese President welcomed India’s accession to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Prime Minister thanked China for the support lent to India to join the block.

To a query on NSG plenary meeting being organised in Seoul, Mr. Swarup said that since it is a complex and a delicate negotiation process, we have to wait for more information from Seoul. Meanwhile, Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with the President of Uzebekistan for deeper bilateral cooperation.
