Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, has called crucial meeting of core group members, legislators, senior party functionaries and former ministers in coalition government today.
They will discuss overall political situation arising after the demise of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
This is the first formal meeting of the party since Mufti’s demise that led to the collapse of coalition government as the alliance partners PDP and BJP did not introduce Mufti’s substitute in stipulated time.
This led to imposition of Governor’s rule in the state with effect from 8th of this month.
BJP State President Sat Paul Sharma said that the Party awaits formal decision of PDP regarding the continuation of the coalition.
Sources said PDP wants assurance from the BJP’s top leadership especially from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the implementation of the Agenda of Alliance framed under the leadership of Party Patriarch late Mufti Sayeed.
Analysts say opposition National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement to consider tie-up with BJP will not pressurize PDP.
In the 87-member Assembly, BJP has 25 MLAs while NC has 14 legislators with PDP topping with 28 members in the Assembly.
Political analysts say the reservations expressed by PDP to continue alliance with the BJP, are not misplaced.
They say PDP leadership have complete understanding of the gains and losses of ten months of the unprecedented tie-up.
Even Party insiders said there is a strong opinion against continuation of the alliance with BJP. However, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has complete support for taking final call on government formation.
