Palestinian and UN officials asked Israel to free a journalist who has been on a hunger strike for nearly 3 months. Israeli authorities detained the Palestinian man in November. They believe he is a Hamas militant but have not charged him.

Doctors have been keeping him under surveillance at a hospital. They say he has been drinking water but has refused all food and medical treatment and is now in a critical condition.

Protesters are rallying in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Human Right groups are also calling for the man’s unconditional release. Officials of the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations have joined the call.
