Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said over 3,000 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations have been arrested this year for joining sudden “flash processions” in the capital.
At a press briefing Friday, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said 46 individuals were detained from several areas — including Khilkhet, Uttara, Banani, Bijoynagar, and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar — in the past 24 hours.
“With these arrests, the total number of detainees from flash processions has exceeded 3,000,” Talebur said. “We have found clear evidence of financial transactions behind these activities. The financiers will also be brought under legal action.”
Police claim participants are paid to appear in brief processions to “assert presence and spread panic.” Talebur added that only after verifying the suspects’ backgrounds are formal charges filed.
