A day after 22 persons lost their lives in a major fire in Bhubaneswar, two FIRs were filed today against the hospital. The State fire department and health department filed FIR with the Khandagiri police pointing out negligence on parts of the SUM hospital authority.
The fire services department said that the in the FIR it is mentioned that hospital authority did not respond to the fire department safety notice in 2013 while state health department’s filed FIR against hospital authorities for dereliction of duty, patient management and shifting.
Meanwhile, in a damage control exercise, the authorities of the SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar today announced 5 lakh rupees compensation each to family of deceased and free medical treatment to the severely injured patients in fire incident.
The authorities also suspended four staff including the fire officer and manager for dereliction of duties. They also said the hospital administration will extend full cooperation to the fact-finding team constituted by the state government.
President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress President Sonia Gandhi today condoled the deaths in the Odisha hospital fire and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
