He said that he had written to Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Parneet Kaur about this problem and stressed the need for a law at national level to curb this menace. He said Mrs. Parneet Kaur has assured to look into it.
He also said he has brought the problem of deserted wives into the notice of the Canadian Consulate General to India, Scott Slaisar.
Earlier Punjab Government has approved setting up of a four-member State Commission for NRIs with powers of a civil court with a view to safeguard the interests of the community in the state.
The Commission would be headed by a retired judge of High Court.
