RIYADH (TIA): The Indian Overseas Community and Non Resident Indians (NRIs) have urged the government to explore the mechanism to include them in the on going census. They also demanded the government to provide them National Identity Cards like any other citizen of the country. The work on the National Identity Cards is going on in the country.
The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA), Riyadh would also present a memorandum in this regard to the visiting Indian Overseas Minster Vayalar Ravi.
The AMUOBA president, Mohammad Zaigham Khan in a statement also noted several other problem faced by the Indian Oversea Community and NRIs.
In its eight point demand it also wanted voting Identity cards for NRIs, opening up of competitive examination centres and Kendriya Vidyalaya in the cites of Gulf Countries.
They also wanted inclusion of Medical Seats for the children of NRI’s under Direct Admission of students from Abroad (DASA). The scheme is run by ministry of Human Resources Development for engineering courses presently.
The memorandum also opposes the proposed new Direct Taxes Code (DTC) that imposes a levy on the global income of NRIs if they stay in India for more than 60 days in a year.
